The Dam was was originally owned and managed through the Pillsbury Lake Management Inc but was deeded over to the district in 1976. The Dam is part of a manmade lake we currently manage and helps keep our community property values up as to offer not only scenic, recreational water activities but also a way of life.
In 2005 we had a huge infrastructure breakdown of the Dam due to water logs and water pressure that was caused by flooding. This meant we had to seek funding and engineering to create and implement a state approved Dam that would be structurally sound and easier to maintain. This cost the district a $400,000 bond that the district members agreed on to fix and won't be paid off until 2028. Since the needed upgrades we've only had to change out the stop logs periodically the last being in 2019.
Pillsbury Lake is approximately 67-acre, man-made lake with an average depth of approximately 5 feet and a max depth of just over 10 feet. The Pillsbury Lake Village District manages the Lake and Dam, located on the south side of the lake. In August of 2022, the PLVD Board voted to authorize the creation of a committee to develop ideas, with public input, on lake management and present these ideas to the board for approval.
This committee was created as the Love Our Lake Committee, which had its opening meeting on August 31, 2022. The Love Our Lake Committee is formed of motivated PLVD residents dedicated to creating a sustainable, comprehensive, and long-term approach to general lake management. The current primary focus is on de-weeding the lake, and the Committee intends to develop a multi-year approach to continue to increase the overall recreational value of the lake.
The Love Our Lake Committee is committed to soliciting community and expert input and remaining transparent as an approach is created. Ideas, plans, and approaches created by the Love Our Lake Committee are presented by the Chair of the Committee to the PLVD Board prior to allocation or spending of funds. If you are interested in joining the Love Our Lake Committee, or just to visit for a meeting or two, please keep an eye out for our Facebook Posts on the PLVD Community Page- All PLVD residents are welcome (and encouraged) to attend!
